Over the past few years we have seen services cut by our local authorities in the name of austerity. Information centres and public toilets have been closed, care services reduced and subsidised bus routes savagely cut. But this month, at my local bus stop at Briarigg on Burneside Road, Kendal, a good quality bus shelter no doubt costing several thousand pounds to put up, appeared. There is only one bus an hour during the day, six days a week and often my wife and I are the only ones waiting at this point. Whilst I'm all for encouraging bus use, I'm sure many would agree that the money would have been much better spent keeping bus routes running, after all, we live in Cumbria, we have umbrellas. I'm afraid our local councils just don't get it.
Yours faithfully,
Roger Davies
