WITH reference to your report about fundraising for a new minibus for Sandgate School (Gazette, June 18, ‘Cyclists aim high to aid bus appeal’), I would like to say a few well deserved ‘thank you’s to those involved.
The new mini bus is actually costing £56,000, not £28,000.
Family and Friends of Sandgate School is generously being match funded by the Lords Taverners.
The vehicle is specially built to accommodate children and young adults with various disabilities.
For some pupils, this is the only chance they have to get out and about.
The new bus will be well used.
Firstly, thanks to all the local businesses who have kindly donated to the cause or freely given their services.
Thanks also to those connected with the ‘Sandgate Cycle Challenge’, especially the ‘super six’ led by Howard Lawton, all of whom took time off work and paid for their own accommodation, for their Herculean efforts.
The challenge was successfully accomplished without mishap.
At the moment we don’t know whether the target has been reached but donations are still welcome (http:// www.justgiving.com/ Howard Lawton) or Sandgate Cycles on Facebook.
Finally, a huge thank you from the pupils of Sandgate School and Sandgate at The Queen Katherine School, many of whom do not have a voice of their own.
We all need more heroes like the Sandgate cycle team!
