I have been applying for a replacement blue badge for my mother, who is aged 93.

I find it quite astounding that, considering her age and the fact that she has held a blue badge for some years (the last one issued in April 2012), I now have to complete another application form of some 14 pages, including one particular question asking: "Do you get short of breath walking with other people of your own age on level ground".

To which I replied: "We have no idea - they're all dead."

Would it not cut down considerably on my time and that of Cumbria County Council's Health and Care Services if one were able to reapply for a badge by simply sending in the old one together with a recent photograph and proof of address?

I can assure Cumbria County Council that my mother is not consuming some sort of youth elixir, nor has her health or mobility improved with age.
