Councillor Clare made comments on grass cutting (Letters, July 23, 'New survey to help verges').
I live in the Shap Road area of Kendal and can assure him that when part of the verge alongside Eskdale House and the laundry was left uncut, there were no wild flowers, only weeds and dockings, which looked most unattractive.
Entering Kendal from the south we have a wonderful array of flowers and this continues through the town, but then comes to an end at the flower border outside Kendal Cricket Club. Alas there are no flower baskets hanging up or wall baskets on the high stone wall on the side of Shap Road, only a grass verge that looks as though a farmer has cut his hayfield then forgotten about it.
I know we are in times of austerity but we all pay our rates, so come on council, let's have a bit of equality and a share of Kendal in Bloom. When we moved to Kendal some 48 years ago this end of town was neat and tidy and there was certainly not the amount of litter around that we see today.
