Sadly, the fact there was drug taking at the Kendal Calling festival should not have come as a surprise to anyone (Gazette, August 6, ‘This must not happen again’).
Cumbria County Council’s cabinet member for children’s services said something needed to be done sooner rather than later. She was quoted as saying: “This issue should be raised within partnership including different councils, police and social workers.”
Surely this process should include the most important and most experienced people at Kendal Calling - those who attended the festival and took drugs.
Obviously it would need to be done under an amnesty but they would get far more useful information from them than you ever would from the normal council talking shop.
