The newly erected bus shelter at Burneside Road, near the Applerigg/Briarigg junction at Kendal, brought delight to the surrounding neighbourhood, especially the elderly who no longer drive and find the walk to the town centre just a bit too far on a wet and windy day.

However, the delight has been shadowed by a letter from Roger Davies (Letters, July 2, ‘Shelter not a priority’), who feels that there is no purpose for such a shelter.

This stop is well used at 10am and 11am especially, and was extremely exposed to the elements before the shelter was built.

Hopefully visits to the town centre for shopping and appointments will now become easier and there have been cases where residents are now using the bus instead of taxis.

On behalf of grateful bus users, thank you to the councils involved.
