Life would certainly be hard in the middle of the second decade of the Twentieth century (Comment, November 5, 'Response shows our readers' generous spirit').

We would be at war and would be seeing many of our young men sent to a needless death in France. We would be facing an uncertain future and suffering the hardship of food shortages.

However, as we are now in fact in the middle of the second decade of the Twenty First century, your error in the Comment forced me to ponder if we are better off in 2015.

People no longer seem able to appreciate the simple things in life and many expect a lifestyle beyond their pockets. Although we are lucky not to be at war, in the conventional sense, we seem to have forgotten how to appreciate our lot.

Fortunately, 100 years later, we do still remember the sacrifices made and that in itself is a cause for thanks and celebration.
