We six from South Lakes Action on Climate Change are travelling to the United Nations Climate Conference in Paris later this month to join large numbers of people who want to ensure that global leaders are left in no doubt that they need to act decisively to limit global temperature rise.

Current global temperature trends pose a very real threat to vast swathes of humanity, and to many fragile ecosystems.

Previous climate conferences have been long on rhetoric and short on enforceable international agreements to limit global temperature rise, but the time for effective and committed action on the part of global leaders is now. This is why we are going to Paris.

Locally, we invite readers to join us at forthcoming events: a peoples' climate rally at Ambleside YHA at noon on Saturday, November 28, and a flashmob at Kendal market place at 1pm on Sunday, November 29. These and other events can be found at www.avaaz.org
