Following the debate and letters in your columns I feel that a reminder might be helpful in stating that the speed limit, be it 20, 30,40, 50, 60 or 70mph is a maximum – not the speed a driver should attain!
Speed limits are for the safety of all road users. The weather, visibility, temperature, surface, pedestrians, animals and other road users constitute potential hazards therefore drivers should be constantly be aware and drive at safe speeds to suit the conditions within the law.
