Andrew Smith (Letters, March 3, 'An insurance against war') is conveniently forgetting the history of these isles, for since we drifted away from mainland Europe we have never been part of that continent and, further more, the countries have never done anything for us other than deprive us of our sovereignty, ruining our fishing industry and shackling our freedom of free speech.
France has invaded us on many occasions, Holland has also violated our lands, Spain and Germany have tried and failed while we have saved Europe on two occasions, with a little help from the Commonwealth and America, from both the French and the Germans.
We have nothing to fear and everything to gain by going it alone.
