Have you crossed the Sands with Cedric Robinson, Queen’s Guide to Morecambe Bay?
Which year(s) did you walk, and what did you enjoy most? Did you raise money for charity? Was the view spectacular? Was the company a treat?
Cedric’s first ever Cross-Bay Walk was in April 1964, so this year he has been guiding people for 52 years! He has walked more than twice round the world, helping others raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity.
Grange-over-Sands Town Council thinks he deserves respect and recognition. We have commissioned a bronze cast of Cedric’s feet, to be set into the ground at Cedric Walk, a new road which we have named in his honour. The bronze plaque will be unveiled on April 2 this year at a celebration event at Victoria Hall.
We are inviting all cross-bay walkers to send a thank-you card to Cedric, in time for us to display them at the celebration. Cedric will delighted that we have such happy memories and will see that we truly appreciate him.
One of Cedric’s chief joys is the people he has met over the years, so let’s return the compliment – send a card this week, email this to your contacts, share it worldwide on facebook. Let’s make it thousands of good wishes and happy memories!
The address for cards is Cedric Robinson c/o Victoria Hall, Main St, Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria, LA11 6DP.
