Does your volunteer group or organisation benefit your community?

Cumbrian nominations are being sought for the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service across the UK.

Any group doing outstanding voluntary work that provides a social, economic or environmental service to the local community can be nominated for the Award, provided that the majority of the group are volunteers.

Groups should have been running for over three years and the nominator should be someone who benefits from the work of the group or is aware of their work.

It must not be an employee or someone directly involved in the governance of the group. Two independent supporting letters are also required. The Lord Lieutenant makes an assessment of nominated groups, the recommendations are considered by a National Awards Committee and the short list goes to the Cabinet Office and is then sent to the Queen for her approval.

The QAVS was established by HM the Queen to mark her Golden Jubilee with the wish that ‘grassroots voluntary achievement across your county is recognised by the highest award of its kind’.

Nominations can be made on line at www.qavs.direct.gov.uk guidance notes found at www.qavs.direct.gov.uk/guidance-notes.

The closing date for entries is September 16, 2016.
