Councillor Graham Vincent's letter in last week's Westmorland Gazette ('Nothing smart about leaving Euro union') contained both incorrect and negative information.
Tourists will always be attracted to visit the UK regardless of our status in Europe. Not only do tourists from the EU visit but also an increasing number from outside the EU, particularly from the far east. He might recall that visits by Lakes tourist organisations have been made to both China and Japan to promote the Lake District.
Scotland will not remain in the EU, regardless of Nicola Sturgeons political ambitions. Any exit negotiations will done on behalf of whole of the UK, which has been confirmed already by the head of the EU commission.
The planned nuclear power station at Moorside Cumbria is joint venture by a number of investors and is not totally dependent on French investment.
Our Royal Navy is part of NATO as are other non EU members, i.e. the USA, and as such our exit from the EU will not change the make up of NATO.
As far as the UK fishing industry is concerned, the UK will continue to manage a realistic quota system for all UK registered vessels after we exit the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP).
Councillor Vincent needs to get his facts straight before he starts scaremongering those voters who elected him and readers of this paper.
