Visitors to Kendal are more intent on following their SatNav than obeying the road signage.

I have observed several incidents of cars travelling down Windermere Road and turning right into Maude Street to access the Premier Inn. On one day recently I saw the same car do this illegal turn twice. These drivers are passing two mandatory signs instructing them they must turn left for the one-way system.

My husband complains about visitors travelling across the junction with Sandes Avenue straight into Stricklandgate, ignoring the instruction ‘except for local buses’. We actually had a near miss recently with a driver doing this manoeuvre as we were exiting Sandes Avenue towards Windermere.

Kendal needs increased and improved signage to make it clear to visitors that they must follow the one-way system, even if it seems to take them away from their hotel. The Premier Inn could also contribute to road safety by including this information in its local brochure.
