Visiting Kendal I wandered to Stonecross Road and spotted an ancient stone with a cross engraved upon it. It is approximately one foot high and six inches wide. The stone lies beside the pavement at the corner off Stonecross Road.
This stone suggests great antiquity and I wondered if it had a local history. I asked two pedestrians if they had any information about the stone but nobody seemed to know anything about it, but checking Wikipedia and online history searches there is no suggestion of a stone cross connection to Kendal that I can find.
Perhaps one of your readers may have information about this ancient stone to reveal its local connection to Kendal and Stonecross Road in particular.
