I WAS interested to read about National Catch A Bus Week (Gazette, July 21, ‘Catch A Bus Week’s just the ticket to ride’).

According to Stagecoach spokesman Michael Sanderson: “Bus is a great way to travel and to get out there to the communities which we serve”.

Really? Many of us would love to use the bus more often but it seems that Stagecoach don’t understand the words ‘public service’.

Since the bus stop for the 45 service to Burneside was moved from outside Specsavers at Kendal to the bus station - quite a considerable walk for many ‘oldies’ and small children - many of us now hire a taxi instead.

It really isn’t much fun to be held up in a shop queue, wondering whether or not the hourly bus will have gone without us, then to try to hurry through the shopping centre, puffing and blowing with heavy shopping to carry.

Some of us are disabled, others have heart or breathing problems and, without exception, everybody wishes they could persuade Stagecoach to pick passengers up outside Specsavers again.

I wrote to Stagecoach, detailing our concerns, on February 1, 2016. I still await a reply.

Apparently our 45 bus stop was moved to the bus station because it was often late. This morning I waited until 11.05am for the 10.50am bus. So that didn’t work, did it?

Although there are seats under cover, the smell of diesel fumes there is dreadful for people with breathing difficulties.

Perhaps KADBUS might be able to help by explaining to Stagecoach just what public service means. I have been unable to find them in the phone book.
