I totally agree with the Podium column by Michael Brooks (Gazette, March 16, 'Remove traffic lights to ease congestion on roads'.

There are far too many traffic lights in Kendal. The worst ones are at Kirkland just as you come over Netherfield Bridge.

Coming down Windermere Road, we have the lights at the junction of Burneside Road/St Thomas's church which, to be fair, the town does need but then we come to the chaos of the next lights adjacent to the Wakefield Arms as people try to juggle to get to either Maude Street and in and out of Stricklandgate (of course, they need to go right round and come in from the other direction). This really needs to be a roundabout.

Then there is the madness of trying to get into the right lane on New Road with cars coming from Wildman Street, another set of traffic lights by the Catholic church and then more just before going over Miller Bridge.

Further on down Aynam Road you come to the lights by K Village, which again could really be a mini roundabout. Then there are lights at Kirkbie Kendal School and the list goes on and on.

The whole traffic system needs reviewing and the powers that be should allow the people of Kendal to give their thoughts on the matter before any money is spent and wasted.
