Tenterfield, the house on Brigsteer Road, designed by Kendal's noted architect John F. Curwen, is being re-developed.
Tenterfield was built by Colin Somervell, a member of Kendal's shoemaking family around 1890.
After the death of his widow in 1944 it became part of Westmorland General Hospital's accommodation for nursing staff.
The developers to their credit have restored the central staircase but during the hospital's ownership the main entrance door was removed and the chimney stack on the north gable.
Does any reader have photographs of Tenterfield showing these features? It might be possible to replace them before refurbishment and conversion is completed.
