I read about the proposed closure of Heversham St Peters CE School.
Although I am now 90 I can recall many memories of my time as a pupil there. Mis Dunn was the infants teacher and Mrs Mackay was the head teacher.
When I was about 9 years old we had a supply teacher Mrs Worden, who was like a breath of fresh air, she taught all the older girls to use the sewing machine, making shorts and blouses for P.E.
The age range was from 5 to 14.
We all walked to school, some from as far away as Hincaster. They brought packed lunches, We lived in Woodhouse Lane, Heversham and walked home for lunch about four miles altogether each day.
I remember when we all sat on the grass near the school, by the road to wave to Queen Mary who was on route to Holkham Hall.
The closure of any school is always very sad.
And the end of an era.
