On Wednesday, May 31, Cumbria County Council decided to cut grass on the A590 from Lindale to Witherslack, reducing the A590 to one lane. This is, of course, yet again wonderful planning, causing chaos for hundreds of motorists.

There was Cartmel race traffic, it was the half term holidays which bring more tourists into the area and yet again there was disruption to local bus services and business traffic and delayed appointments for local people attending hospital appointments.

This winter has seen more than enough traffic disruptions on the A590. Would a bit planning seem not out of the question?

* Editor's note: After this letter was printed the Gazette received a letter in response from Cumbria County Council:

I read the letter regarding grass cutting on the A590 from Lindale to Witherslack (Letters, June 15, 'Grass cutting was disruptive').

The letter was submitted by a resident of Grange-over-Sands and outlined the disruption she perceived this work had caused; clearly holding Cumbria County Council accountable for the disturbance.

I would like readers to be be aware that Cumbria County Council is not responsible for this stretch of road. The A590 is managed and maintained by Highways England.
