THE writer of 'We need another referendum' (Letters, October 26), crafts a legalistic argument which misses the point of the democratic mandate from us Brits to regain control of our country from an unelected foreign commission presided over by an executive at the top of the EU pyramid.

Our Parliament, as answerable to us the electorate, voted we should have a referendum (not more than one).

The majority of MPs had at long last realised how fed up the British were with how the EU has left us, the people, without control of how we are ruled and how a lot of our taxes are spent and not accounted for by the Commission in Brussels!

She states that democracy doesn't operate by voting on every issue and therefore misses the point that the referendum was about the absolutely fundamental issue of who governs us, our children and the next generations. The mandate was given to our government to get on with Brexit.

How on earth can another referendum be contemplated upon all the details of leaving the EU? That is inviting chaos and uncertainty!

It's not a political party matter either, as 'together we stand, divided we fall', so watch out for those who will try to undermine Brexit!

Put another way is the writer really implying we didn't realise what we were voting for, so we need to think again? Please give us Brits credit - we know how to make up our minds and rightly expected our elected representatives to accept the majority verdict!

Let's not be complacent and hold our government to account including through our MPs in Parliament, to see Brexit through; with true British grit, especially as our representatives are facing the reality of EU negotiators' awkwardness and unreasonable demands, like a huge ransom to leave their rule!

Rule Britannia, not Brussels!

C. Ashton
