STOPPING recently at a petrol station about 20 miles south of Kendal we noticed a puncture. In the 15-20 minutes it took to unload the boot and change the tyre, the following happened.
First a biker came over and offered to change it before he left. Then a lorry driver came over and offered a hand.
Next the shop staff came out to offer help and said call back in if we needed anything.
Last, a lady stopped to see if we needed a lift anywhere.
This is just a passing example of the kindness of Lake District folk. We wanted to pass on our thanks and we have been telling this story since returning to the cold-hearted south.
