The letter from Roger Wilkinson (November 16, 'Grim future') is typical of those who wish to deny freedom and democracy to the UK voters.

I wish to remind those who say the referendum was advisory that David Cameron’s leaflet stated unambiguously: "This is your opportunity to decide if we leave or remain in the EU" and "The choice is yours. The government will implement what you decide."

The British people accepted that commitment by the Prime Minister and voted accordingly.

In light of that there is no mandate for anyone who wants to reverse Brexit. No one said it was advisory at the time as each side expected to win. It is significant that only those on the losing side are saying it was advisory, a bit like those who lose a toss of a coin or the turn of a card saying ‘best out of three’.

Asking the people what they want is democracy in its purest form. I know many are complaining at the price of bread or milk but freedom always comes at a price and it will only be temporary.

Who would have refused to defend freedom and democracy in WW2 knowing it would bankrupt the country for years, because we didn’t want to be hit in the pocket?

The EU vote was more about us not being told what to do by unelected Eurocrats who have been taking our money for 40 years. Enough is enough.
