I WAS most interested to see the Gazette report and the comment about the old Bridge Hotel in Kendal (Gazette, February 8, 'Community bids to save riverside pub').
My great great Grandfather John Pollitt, owned this hotel. His wife, who was Agnes Bellingham, owned another hotel in the town centre.
Their son Charles Pollitt was apprenticed to The Westmorland Gazette in 1867 and went on to become the proprietor of the paper. His son, my grandfather Frank Pollitt, took over from him and sold the Gazette in 1929.
I am sure that restoring this old building, which is in such a beautiful location by the river, would be an enormous asset to Kendal.
