WE FINALLY had our first major display of noctilucent clouds last week. On Thursday night the northern sky was painted with swirls, veils and streaks of electric blue light from 11.30pm - maybe you saw them? From now on displays should steadily get bigger and brighter; some displays should cover half the sky and go on until the sky brightens with the approach of dawn. So keep an eye on the northern sky around midnight and you might see something incredibly beautiful.
Venus and Jupiter are now really getting close in the twilight after sunset. Every night now they will be a little closer, in advance of meeting on June 30. If you can, get out of town to somewhere with a properly dark sky and a low horizon and you'll see them at their very best.
