Soapmaker scoops top award

A SOUTH Lakeland firm has cleaned up at a high-profile competition to find the nation’s top small business.

Sedbergh Soap Company was crowned Micro Business of the Year at the Start-up Awards, beating off strong competition..

Delighted business founder Dorthe Pratt said: “We have enjoyed fantastic local support from day one, when I set up the business in June 2007.

“To win this award and receive national recognition for our hard work is simply amazing.

“The competition was very tough and I am proud of the fact that the judges chose Sedbergh Soap Co. because they felt we had the biggest potential.

“We are already growing at a very fast pace, expanding our facilities and adding more staff. I have no doubt that this award will propel us forward and it looks like, once again, the business plan has to be re-written.

“It is a privileged position to be in given the current economic climate; we are still a small business but with that comes agility and the ability to respond instantly to market changes.”
