WITH several clubs in cup action, Cartmel and District beat Arnside 3-2 in a great game as they avenged their early-season defeat.

Cartmel opened up a 2-0 lead through Steve Porter and a brilliant and rare header from Graham Rhodes.

Arnside recovered and Ben Lenton scored a superb goal before Arnside deservedly drew level when James Thornton scored his usual goal for the club.

With five minutes remaining an Arnside attack broke down which Cartmel took advantage of as John Lord scored to keep his side in second and Arnside at the bottom.

Ingleton drew 1-1 with Bowerham thanks to a David Easterby equaliser while Morecambe Royals beat Storeys 5-2.

In the Craven and District Football Association Senior Cup Bentham entertained Dent in what turned out to be a far from easy game despite winning 7-1.

The scoreline did not do justice to Dent as they battled well, losing 3-1 at half time. But the second half saw Bentham add four goals and scorers were David Whitfield (three), James Earnshaw, Teddy Harrison, Daniel Briggs-Calvert and Chris Hodgkinson. Dent’s reply was from the penalty spot converted by Brad Dalziel.

In the Black Dragon Senior Challenge Cup second round Carnforth Rangers had an expected win over Bolton-le-Sands, winning 3-0 with Ricky Ball bagging a brace and Damien Murphy netting.

In round three Carnforth will travel to Kirkby Lonsdale, who sprung a surprise by beating last season’s runners-up Highgrove 2-1. Grant Troughton and Ryan Preston did the damage for Kirkby with their goals.

Premier side Caton beat Division One side Swarthmoor Social Club 3-1 through Jordan Sparks, Mark Burkitt and Ryan Lackey, with a Mike O’Neil penalty scoring for Swarthmoor. In the next round Caton will be at home to the winners of the Ingleton versus Storeys tie.
