Buxton 1

Kendal Town 2

Evo-Stik Premier Division

A SOLID second half display helped Kendal come from behind to earn all three points in Derbyshire as the Mintcakes claimed their first league win in a month.

A brace from Scott Harries and an injury time penalty save from Craig Dootson were enough to claim a vital victory for the Parkside Road outfit.

Buxton started the game brighter and had chances to take an early lead as they attacked the Black and Whites goal.

But Kendal also had a good chance when Kevin Leadbetter’s crossed ball was headed down by Josh Amis to Alex Taylor, but the club’s top scorer this season hit his shot straight into the hands of the keeper.

Buxton were given a free kick after a foul on Michael Towey but the powerful shot was deflected wide.

The best chance for Kendal in the first half fell to Amis when he hit the post after good work from the returning Danny Wisdom.

Buxton took the lead on 25 minutes when a ball was played in towards Mark Reed. It was headed away by a Kendal defender but the ball went straight to a Buxton man, who played a good ball across the box for Towey to tap in.

Joe Bunney, Amis and Leadbetter had chances as the first half reached its conclusion but their efforts failed to trouble Buxton keeper Ian Deakin.

Buxton had a chance to extend their lead early in the second half when a long throw from Marc Roberts was headed towards goal but Craig Dootson saved well and Jack Duggan, another to return from injury, cleared up field.

Kendal had a penalty appeal waved away after a push on Conor Qualter but on 54 minutes Kendal got their equaliser.

Leadbetter played the ball across to Amis, whose shot was parried into the path of Harries for him to slot it into the back of the net.

Kendal then took the lead three minutes later when Bunney’s shot was saved. Again, the ball fell to Harries, who originally shot against the keeper before putting in the rebound as Kendal went 2-1 up.

Chances kept falling for the Black and Whites as Amis, Taylor and Leadbetter all had efforts saved well by Deakin.

Kendal continued to dominate the second half, Leadbetter striking a free kick that was tipped over.

Heading into injury time the game took a dramatic turn when Buxton were awarded a penalty for a foul on Reed by Leadbetter. Lee Morris stepped up to take the penalty but Dootson guessed the right way and Duggan was first to react to the loose ball as he cleared it to safety, securing a crucial three points for the Mintcakes.
