A CALVIN Dollard strike helped Kendal Celtic to their first win of the season after a hard fought 1-0 victory over Lunesdale Utd in the top division of the Westmorland Football League.

The Celts put in a workmanlike performance against a very good Lunesdale side to pick up a much-needed three points as they look to pull away from the bottom end of the league.

They moved within one point of Staveley United, who narrowly lost to Ambleside United Reserves 4-3 courtesy of a brace apiece from Ambleside’s Mike Barron and Ryan Close.

In Division Two Endmoor KGR closed to within four points of Carvetii United with a game in hand after they beat Kendal County Reserves 4-3.

Windermere SC were soundly beaten 6-0 at the hands of Langwathby United.

In the Westmorland Senior Challenge Cup Kendal United eased into the next round with a 9-3 victory over Eden Thistle.

Milnthorpe Corinthians put behind their poor league form as they progressed to the quarter final after they beat Westmorland Division Two side Shap 3-1.

In the Westmorland Benevolent Trophy holders Keswick beat Division Two table toppers Carvetii United 3-0.

Keswick took the lead when Little broke clear on the right, and his cross to the far post drifted over the keeper and landed in the far corner of the net.

Keswick always looked like they could score and Andy Rigg throught he had when he beat the right back and crossed the ball right under the crossbar which the Carvetti keeper could only help into the net. However the linesman had his flag signalling that the ball went out of play, back in, then back under the cross bar.

Keswick made it two when Little put a great left-footed cross to Bannister who had pulled away at the far post. His shot was well-saved but it fell kindly to Rigg, who scored from close range.

Within minutes it was 3-0. Little swung in a near post corner which was missed by several players until it fell to Dowson, who volleyed in from two yards.

Unisun Athletic were 2-1 victors at Wetheriggs United in the other Benevolent Trophy match.
