THE first in a series of urban night sprint events tested navigation skills through the streets, parks and woodland around Ambleside.

After a mass start, 30 competitors were split up through a series of staggered loops to complete the same 3.5km ‘Palaver in Galava’ course.

Lakeland OC’s Todd Oates (M21) was first back in 21.15, half a minute ahead of Ambleside AC’s Dan Duxbury (M35) followed by LOC’s Tom Gibbs (M40) in 22.42.

First women home were junior Hannah Cleary-Hughes (W16) tying for seventh place with her mother Jo Cleary (W45) in 26.06. Dick Towler was fastest super-veteran in 28.12 to give him 11th place.

The last event of the Warloc series will be held in Ulverston on Wednesday, November 28 with registration at Ford Park from 6pm.

Lakeland OC’s next standard event will be on Sunday, December 2 on Bethecar Moor.
