MATCH of the day took place between the sides in joint-second in the league - Cartmel and District and Morecambe Royals.

The game was end to end throughout with both sides playing excellent football on a ‘bobbly’ pitch.

The Royals were just about the better side as they went into a 2-0 lead with goals from Mark Murphy and Gareth Holmes.

But the young Cartmel side never gave up and with just five minutes remaining they struck twice, first Steve Porter beat the keeper then within 60 seconds Joel Drinkall brought the teams level to make it 2-2 at full time.

Caton United received a shock when they entertained lowly Arnside.

The game was even at 1-1 after goals from Caton’s Nathan Jackson and Taylor for Arnside when poor defending led to Arnside scoring their second goal as James Smith was on target against the run of play with 20 minutes remaining.

Caton tried to get back on level terms but failed to trouble the keeper.

In Division One Swarthmoor Social Club are making a good bid to make it back to the Premier Division after a very good 4-0 win over an inconsistent Heysham.

Swarthmoor controlled most of the game with their goals being scored following excellent passages of play by Mike Thompsett (two), with Andy Butler also scoring a brace.

The win keeps Swarthmoor as joint leaders.

Trimpell took a lucky but deserved lead over Kirkby Lonsdale when Andy Metcalfe put the ball into the back of his own net but the advantage did not last long as Kirkby went straight onto the attack.

They were rewarded with a great goal scored by Grant Troughton to level the game.

The game went from end to end with both defences on top form but in the 85th minute Sam Sandham had a half chance which he took by just beating the keeper to win the game for Trimpell.

In the Lancashire Football Association Amateur Cup Fourth Round Carnforth Rangers paid for their slow start against Old Boltonians.

The home side scored an early goal from a corner with Carnforth’s defence all over the place and held the lead to half time.

Carnforth again suffered from slack marking from a free kick to go 2-0 down and another mistake in the defence led to the home side going into a 3-0 lead.

With 15 minutes remaining Carnforth woke up and started playing with a fury which resulted in Mark Plevey closing the gap.

Within a couple of minutes Carnforth were right back in the game with another strike by Damien Murphy.

The last 10 minutes was played mainly in the Bolton side’s penalty area but Carnforth had no luck and their efforts were too little too late.
