KENDAL Wrestling academy coach John Wilson took several wrestlers to Glasgow to compete in the Scottish Backhold wrestling championships - and it proved a very successful trip.
Jamie Wilson from Burneside was the first winner in the under 14 years, 8.5 stones to be followed by his cousin Sam from Skelsmergh, who had two wins in the junior section (under 21 years) at 8.5 and 10.5 stones.
These wins mean that Sam has achieved a very notable hattrick this year by recording championship wins in the backhold style of wrestling in France (Brittany), England and now Scotland.
The next winner was Ben Brocklebank from Warton in the junior 12.5 stones to be followed by James Hayhurst from Natland in the junior allweights event.
Also up for competition on the same day were some of the British championships and here again Hayhurst came out on top in the 13.5 stones.
Sadly since that success he has broken a bone in his leg which will put him out of action for a few months.
