Carl is Bell of the ball as he triumphs in Nine Standards
RECORDS tumbled at the Nine Standards Fell Race at Kirkby Stephen as Howgill’s Carl Bell smashed the previous best by more than half a minute.
Despite losing a shoe in a bog halfway round and having to stop to find it again, Bell set a time of 51.44 to better the previous record of 52.25.
Morgan Donnelly came home second in 52.41 just 16 seconds outside of the previous record, while Kim Collison from Eden Runners finished third three minutes adrift.
Todmorden runner Lauren Jeska won the ladies race in a time of 61.01 to finish 22nd overall, and she was just five seconds outside of the ladies record.
Mel Hyder was second in 63.13, while Sandra Lewis from Altrincham was third best woman six minutes behind Hyder.
A record 166 runners took part in the 25th anniversary of the Nine Standards Fell Race, beating the previous best of 130.
Bell was given £50 for his impressive run, and the first 150 runners were given a t-shirt courtesy of Rowland Bowman.
