Bolton 1

Kendal 5

North Hockey Women’s League

ILLNESS meant that Kendal only had 11 players for their Premier Division trip to Bolton, but that proved to be no obstacle as they triumphed 5-1.

After a tense start Kendal played their way into the game and started to dominate, and three goals followed in quick succession.

The first was created by Nicola Conway, who threaded a pass to the far post for Sally Scott to put away.

Conway went on to score a couple of goals that included a deflection and a clever reverse stick pass into the net.

After half time Bolton rallied and brought it back to 3-1, scoring from a goal-mouth scramble at a short corner.

Some fantastic saves from Fiona Battersby and fine tackles from Nicola Martindale and Emma Woodburn kept Kendal ahead and eventually they took control again.

Conway completed her hat-trick with a powerful short corner strike before Vicky Jones ran the length of the pitch to get on the end of a Carole Quill pass and drill it through the keepers legs.

Despite this solid 5-1 win Kendal will not be complacent as they take on Timperley at home next Saturday.

In Division Two North West Ulverston remain bottom of the table after they were soundly beaten 8-1 at league leaders Didsbury Greys.

Kirkby Stephen moved down to seventh in the table after a narrow 3-2 defeat to Northern.

In the Cumbria League, Ambleside thrashed Wigton Seconds 10-0, with five goals scored in each half through Charlotte Russell (three), Donna Robinson (two), Janet Faulkner, Lucy Downham, Katie Andrews, Jess Young and Dayna Cannon.

Kirkby Lonsdale continued their 100 per cent record thanks to a 5-0 win at home to Dalston Seconds, while Carlisle and South Lakes kept up the pressure with victories over Kirkby Stephen Thirds (9-0) and Penrith (4-1) respectively.

Kendal Seconds moved up to sixth in the league after a 3-1 success over Carlisle Seconds, while Kirkby Stephen Seconds beat Keswick 1-0 in a tight game.
