Kendal 0

Timperley 1

North Hockey Women’s League Premier Division

KENDAL Ladies came up against a well-organised Timperley side on Saturday and it was evenly matched first half, with both teams creating chances.

There was some good defensive work from Emma Woodburn and Becca Delbridge on the left but 10 minutes before half time, Timperley broke the deadlock having stolen possession from a hit-out and scrambled it in.

The match continued at a fast pace in the second half which was hard work for Kendal with no substitutes.

Keeper Fiona Battersby made a string of amazing one on one saves preventing further goals. She also managed to save a penalty flick as well.

Despite fighting all the way to the final whistle Kendal were unable to find an equaliser as Kendal succumbed to defeat.

The Cumbrians will look to put this rare defeat behind them as they face Springfields next week at home at Kirkbie Kendal.

Kirkby Stephen moved up one place in the Division Two North West table after they comfortably dispatched Mossley Hill 8-0.

Ulverston remain bottom of the table after an 8-1 loss to Clitheroe.

Kirkby Lonsdale continue to set aside all before them after thumping Kirkby Stephen Thirds 16-0 on Saturday.

It was their 12th victory from 12 games this season, but Carlisle remained within three points of the top of the table after they enjoyed a similarly comfortable 11-0 success over Kendal Seconds.

South Lakes’ 5-2 win over Keswick allowed them to stay third in the table, with Kirkby Stephen Seconds in fourth thanks to their 4-0 victory over Carlisle Seconds.

Ambleside were involved in a ding dong battle against Penrith.

Losing an early goal, Ambleisde fought back and was unlucky not to equalise in the first half.

Lucy Downham equalised and Ambleside went in front, before Penrith scored twice in a topsy-turvy game which Penrith were leading 3-2.

Charlotte Russell levelled the score for Ambleside but as the draw looked inevitable a lapse from Ambleside with a minute to play saw Penrith take the spoils in a 4-3 victory.

The Cumbria League’s other tie saw Dalston beat Wigton Seconds 5-1.
