KENDAL Town boss Steve Edmondson was full of praise for his charges after the Black and Whites escaped the relegation zone with victory over Grantham Town last Saturday.

Town’s entertaining 4-3 success over the Lincolnshire side, which saw six goals in the first half, was their second successive win and moved them above Stocksbridge Park Steels on goal difference.

Now Edmondson is hoping that with his side full of confidence, they can go on to claim a decent result at home to Worksop Town this weekend.

“The Grantham game was fabulous,” said Edmondson.

“We knew it was another six-pointer so for the lads to carry on from the Eastwood game was great and they delivered.

“We were skating on thin ice at times and there are areas we can improve, but we’ve scored 10 goals in two games so that’s great.

“It’s Worksop today and that game will be a great indication of how far we have come in the last couple of games.

“We go into the game with quite a bit of confidence and hopefully we can get a result.”

Simon Rawnsley was unable to play at the weekend due to work commitments, but the striker is back in contention for the squad for today’s home tie against Worksop Town.

Goalkeeper Ryan Robinson suffered a groin injury before the Grantham match, so Damien Clifton was drafted in to replace him. Clifton, who was previously unattached to another club, knows Edmondson after playing under him for one season at Ambleside United.

The Kendal Town boss said he was unsure if Robinson would be fit for today's game.

Fifth-placed Worksop come to Parkside Road on the back of a creditable 1-1 draw with fellow playoff contenders Marine at the weekend.

Chairman Haydon Munslow has called on more fans to get down to Parkside Road after a disappointing number of 156 people attended the last home match against Eastwood Town two weeks ago.

Munslow said: “More than half the squad are local lads and the recent high scorers Maison McGeechan, Simon Rawnsley and Zach Clark are all from South Lakeland.

“The more people in the stadium, the louder the vocal support, the better the atmosphere for Steve Edmondson’s team to play.”

On Tuesday night, the Black and Whites have the opportunity to reach their second successive Lancashire Trophy final at the Reebok Stadium when they tackle AFC Fylde at the Lancashire FA County Ground in Leyland.

“We’ve got a big game on Saturday firstly but the opportunity to play at the Reebok is fantastic and I’m sure we will acquit ourselves a lot better than the last time we played Fylde, when we lost 4-1,” added Edmondson.

Meanwhile, Curzon Ashton defeated Burscough 2-0 in the second round of the Doodson Sport Cup on Monday to set up a third round tie with Kendal Town.

That game is scheduled to be played on Monday, February 25 at the Tameside Stadium.
