KENDAL Ladies came out on top after an end to end battle against Longridge on Saturday.
The game was exciting and fast-paced with some fantastic hockey from both sides.
The Cumbrians took the lead in the first half with a short corner rebound scored by Carole Quill before Sally Scott put another goal in the back of the Longridge net, giving Kendal a two goal lead.
Longridge had their fair share of chances throughout the first half but some great defensive work prevented them from scoring.
The home side came back fighting in the second half and managed to pull a goal back from a short corner rebound but Kendal were quick to answer with an Abby Bland goal from a well practiced short corner routine.
Longridge scored a second goal in the last five minutes of play but it was not enough as Kendal emerged triumphant.
Meanwhile in the Cumbria Women’s League Kirkby Lonsdale’s 100 per cent winning record was broken at the 17th attempt when they were held to a 1-1 draw by second-placed Carlisle, who remain eight points adrift.
Third placed South Lakes kept up the pressure with a 3-0 success over Wigton Seconds, but that momentum was dampened on Sunday when they succumbed to a 4-2 defeat to Dalston, who beat Carlisle Seconds 6-1 the day before.
Kirkby Stephen Seconds and Penrith remain within one point of each other after 2-0 and 3-1 successes over Ambleside and Kendal Seconds respectively.
Kirkby Stephen Ladies Thirds picked up their fourth win of the season by beating Keswick 4-2.
