AFTER brushing aside Farsley at Parkside Road on Saturday, Kendal Town boss Steve Edmondson insists his side have now set the benchmark in terms of performance levels.

The Mintcakes travel to last season’s beaten play-off finalists Cammell Laird at the weekend before entertaining West Lancashire outfit Burscough on Tuesday evening.

Having now racked up convincing wins against Wakefield and Farsley in recent times, Edmondson firmly believes home form will hold the key to success as the campaign progresses.

“That’s the standard of performance we’ve been aiming for,” he said.

“Farsley are a side recognised as likely to be challenging for honours so for us to beat them so convincingly was impressive and exactly what we want the players to achieve.

“It is imperative we win our home games and if we can pick up some points on the road we won’t be far away.

“We’re focusing on Cammell Laird and looking to take something from that game and then move on to Burscough where hopefully we can take all three points.

“We hit the standards we set last Saturday, the hard part now is repeating that on a regular basis, starting this weekend.”

Kendal warmed up for Saturday’s clash on Merseyside with a commanding 9-2 home victory over Workington Reserves in a friendly match on Tuesday night.

Edmondson was keen to give game-time to those players needing minutes on the pitch, one of those being Darren Green who bagged a hat-trick.

The ex-England College international joins from Northwich Victoria after spells with Stockport County, Clitheroe and Lancaster City, with the former Ambleside United manager pleased with his transfer business.

“We’ve had two or three players who have been away and also lads who have been on the bench so it was important to give them a run out,” he added.

“It just means when we need them they are up to speed as much as they can be and can benefit the squad.

“Darren is a good signing, he has got a bit of fitness to achieve but he gives us another option up front and ensures competition for places.

“On the downside, Maison McGeechan is not available for Saturday’s game, we think he may have a ligament injury after Tuesday and his leg is in plaster as a precaution.”

Green joins an already strong striking department which includes Danny Mitchley who is now the clear frontrunner in the division’s goalscoring charts after his double against Farsley.

The acquisition of the 24-year-old also allows Edmondson to protect Jordan Connerton, who is still struggling with injury.

“Darren helps us to use Jordan sparingly and that is a situation we need to manage and have been doing,” he said.

“Jordan understands that and we have some top people looking at him and advising us what to do, which is a big help.

“With the players we have at our disposal, we’re always going to score goals but the aim is to keep more clean sheets like we did on Saturday.

“And I’m sure we can do that with Craig Dootson in goal as he spreads confidence to the rest of the back four.”
