MISSION completed was the message from Steve Edmondson as his Kendal Town side followed Saturday’s win at Cammell Laird with a home victory over Burscough on Tuesday evening.

The six points taken this week extends the Mintcakes’ winning streak to three matches and propels the Parkside Road club to third in Evo-Stik League Division One North.

And while Edmondson believes it was crucial to take maximum points from Tuesday’s clash, that now has to be put to one side with fixtures against Clitheroe and Bamber Bridge looming large.

“It was important to build on Saturday’s great result so all credit to the players and the squad for getting past Burscough,” he said.

“I was especially pleased with the second-half performance where I thought everyone was at the races and Zach Clark came into his own. It was a great showing.

“But now we have to put that on the back-burner with Clitheroe at home on Saturday and three more points up for grabs.”

Saturday’s 3-2 success on Merseyside was a topsy-turvy affair with the visitors pegged-back twice before the late drama of Craig Dootson’s penalty save and Darren Green’s winner.

And Edmondson is keen to praise the resilience of his side, refusing to be bullied during a tough away assignment at somewhere like Cammell Laird and earning the right to play.

“It’s about time we had some luck but I believe you make your own luck in the game,” he added.

“These two games have been physically tough encounters and it shows we can be physical too with not many teams turning us over.

“We have got a settled side now and a settled squad and everyone is pulling for one another which is fantastic, All credit to the players.”

Edmondson and assistant manager Dave Foster have reinforced their playing staff in recent weeks with the signings of Dootson, Green and Warren Beattie.

The latest acquisition is centre-half Ricky Mercer from Northwich Victoria, with the former Ambleside Untied boss comfortable with the depth and balance of his squad.

“The spine of the team has been strengthened but the pleasing thing is when you look at our bench we have Adam Freeland, Danny McGahon, Mike Rushton, Martin Grundy and Daz,” he said.

“So the players who start know they have to perform otherwise the guys on the bench are going to take their places.

“There is also Maison McGeechan to come back in which is going to create competition for places which is brilliant.
