Leigh Ladies 19
Kendal Ladies Wasps 31
NC North 1
INSIDE CENTRE Vanessa Temple opened and closed the scoring as Kendal retained their lead at the top of the table with victory over an experienced Leigh outfit.
Fielding four debutants in their first away game of the season, Abby Bland touched down twice as Sarah Simpson also crossed the line.
Looking to avenge last week’s defeat to Sunderland Ladies, Kendal started brightly with some good recycled ball allowing Temple to score under the posts.
Leigh replied with a converted try of their own before impressive rucking enabled Bland to corss the line, with a successful conversion making the score 12-7.
And after Leigh’s full-back was turned over following Bland’s kick and chase, the skipper ran in unopposed for a converted try to give Kendal a healthy half-time lead.
Leigh reduced the arrears before Kirsty Ranson orchestrated a move which saw Simpson power over, with Bland converting for a 26-12 lead.
After a strong run from her own half, Temple rounded off the Wasps scoring before Leigh recorded a consolation try, although by this stage the points were safe.
Kendal are on their travels again in January when they head to Southport, with the Wasps leading the way in NC North 1 with five wins from six matches.
