SKIPPER Mike Packham headed a last-gasp winner to complete Milnthorpe Corinthians’ comeback against nine-man CMB and continue their impressive form at The Strand.

Craig McGinley gave the visitors a half-time lead before Scott Singleton paved the way for Packham’s late heroics, as Sam Kelly and two visiting players saw red.

After a CMB player was dismissed for a knee-high challenge on Singleton, McGinley fired the away side into a half-time lead with Milnthorpe manager Richard Close making a double substitution at the break.

Richie Sandham and David Leinwebber were replaced by Sam Kelly and Peter Baxendale respectively with the latter making an impression with trademark runs down the left flank.

Baxendale laid the ball into the path of Singleton who found the net with a rasping 30-yard effort, before Kelly received his marching orders after 65 minutes.

CMB’s captain was red-carded for dissent although the away side continued to press for a winner, with Elliot Bousfield defending impressively with crucial tackles.

However, with seconds remaining a headed goal from man of the match Packham secured maximum points for the hosts, making it four wins from seven at home so far this season.

Elsewhere in Division Two, GSK Ulverston maintained their three-point cushion over Milnthorpe – while retaining three games in hand – with a 4-3 victory over fourth-placed Kendal County.

Mike Penny, Danny Leech, Carl Walker and Matthew Lawler were on target for the visitors as Aiden Caswell, Jason Jones and Jordan Coathuth replied for the home side.

A hat-trick from the league’s leading scorer Callum Rayner – taking his tally for the season to 16 – was the catalyst for Askam United’s comfortable 4-0 victory over basement boys Barrow Wanderers.

In Division One, Ambleside United slipped to 3-1 home defeat to lowly Wyre Villa, with Jack Bradley’s goal proving inconsequential as Paul Passmore, Shaun Kelly and Shane Cragg netted for the visitors.

Kieran Sisson bagged a hat-trick as Turton saw off Furness Rovers 4-2 with Dave Hanlon also scoring, while Steve Caskie and Joshua Jones made the scoresheet for the hosts.

Dalton United’s clash with Mill Hill St Peters was postponed while in the Premier Division, Slyne with Hest went down 5-1 to high-flying Fleetwood Hesketh, with Ben Danvers finding the net.
