GSK Ulverston Rangers maintain pressure at Division Two summit as Kendal County and Milnthorpe Corinthians also win

DANNY LEECH once again found the net as GSK Ulverston Rangers continue to eye top spot in West Lancashire League Division Two after victory over lowly Stoneclough.

Martin Wardle also scored as Ulverston secured their fifth away win of the season, with Jamie Bohanan netting what ultimately proved a consolation for the hosts.

Leech’s ninth goal of the season laid the foundations for Darren Barker’s side who remain four points behind table-toppers Askam United with two games in hand.

Askam United – voted the division’s team of the month for November – enjoyed a crushing 6-0 victory over CMB with Kyle Jefferson leading the way with two goals.

Chris McLean, Mike Platt, Warren Smithson and the prolific Callum Rayner, who took his season’s tally to 17, also made the scoresheet to compound the away side’s misery.

A late Cory Vickers penalty completed the comeback as Milnthorpe Corinthians continue their charge with a 2-1 win over mid-table Haslingden St. Mary’s at The Strand.

After a goalless first-half, Danny Wade gave Haslingden the lead, which was cancelled out by Ryan Close with 15 minutes of the match remaining.

Close’s solo run ended with the 11-goal marksman rounding the visiting keeper and slotting home from a difficult angle.

A 25-yard Vickers thunderbolt narrowly cleared the crossbar while Adam Hornby was forced into a smart save to deny Wade his second of the afternoon.

Shortly after Haslingden were reduced to ten men, Elliot Bousfield was fouled in the box with Vickers sealing maximum points from the resulting spot-kick.

Kendal County are another side handily placed in the division’s chasing pack, posting a 2-1 win over Ladybridge to recover from last week’s defeat against GSK Ulverston Rangers.

Aiden Caswell and Curtis Nicholson were the goalscorers with Jordan Hussey on target for Ladybridge, with Kendal now 11 points behind Askam United having played two games less.

Elsewhere, Furness Cavaliers beat Croston Sports 4-2 with Jordan Hughes, Jordan Chubb, Lee Simpson and Kyle Delves doing the damage in front of goal.

In Division One, Matthew Burns netted twice as Furness Rovers beat Poulton 2-0 as Dalton United’s game at Millom and Ambleside United’s clash at Turton were both postponed.

In the Premier Division, Luke Ogley netted a late leveller to secure an impressive share of the spoils for Slyne with Hest at runaway leaders Charnock Richard, who scored through Andy Roberts.
