A RESILIENT Windermere pushed high-flying Egremont all the way in a close Raging Bull Cumbria One encounter at Dawes Meadow with Leigh Wood touching down for the hosts.

The visitors drew first blood as talented full-back Lewis Boyd rounded the home defence to score out wide, with Mere skipper Dan Harrison forced to leave the pitch through injury.

Boyd was instrumental in Egremont’s second try although Mere – with recent good form behind them – played some impressive rugby with Wood reducing the arrears with a trademark try.

Good interchange play between Boyd and fly-half Liam Nicholls saw Egremont extend their half-time lead, although Jim Crawford’s superb penalty set up an interesting final ten minutes.

Late Mere pressure came to nothing as Egremonth ran out 15-8 winners, with the home side tucked away nicely in seventh-place in the league standings.

Elsewhere, Kendal 2nd XV returned from Silloth on the wrong end of a 32-7 scoreline, while fourth-placed Creighton beat Wigton Wanderers 46-0.

In Raging Bull Cumbria Two, Ambleside gave Keswick a run for their money at Galava Park going down 14-7 while Furness thrashed Carlisle 39-0.

Meanwhile, Hawcoat Park beat Upper Eden 17-10, Millom saw off St Benedicts 35-12 while Workington recorded a 17-10 success over Whitehaven.
