DESPITE scoring 22 goals in four northern championship games in Hull, Windermere’s youngsters narrowly missed out on the five-a-side National Under-18 Indoor Hockey Cup finals.

The Lakes boys started impressively with goals from Richie Jackson (4), Ben Scott (3) and skipper Tom Dolman in an 8-1 opening win against Bolton.

However, Cheshire side Bowdon then edged out Mere 5-4 despite two goals from Jackson and further strikes from Scott and Sam Whitehead.

A 5-5 draw with Preston followed with Jackson (4) and Dolman on target, preceding a goal-fest finale against tournament winners Ben Rhydding.

The Yorkshire outfit eventually won 10-5 after the sides had been drawing 3-3, with Jackson (3), Dolman and Whitehead making the scoresheet.

The occasion proved great experience for Windermere's junior squad, with many still qualifying for this age group next year.

Squad: Josh Quinn (GK), Tom Dolman, Richie Jackson, Ben Scott, Sam Whitehead, Joe Kay and Ed Brownell
