ROUND TWO of the Marmot Masters Friday Night Bouldering Series was contested at the Lakeland Climbing Centre – with the competition climbs set by two-time British Bouldering champion Leah Crane.

Kendal resident Crane – currently ranked 13th in the world – set the challenge of 20 boulder problems to be completed within four hours, testing speed, climbing and endurance.

Highlights of the evening included Will Jackson’s 15 second speed record on the ten metre routing roof – four seconds faster than his winning time in round one.

Ambleside student Rhys Whitehouse took top-spot in the Elite Men’s category, with Caroline Matthews winning the closely-fought Elite Ladies equivalent.

Clair Fowler, also from Ambleside, enjoyed a successful evening, securing the Premier Ladies title from Kendal Wall’s Mari Cole, who came second.

The veteran men’s category was won by Morecambe-based ex-British Bouldering Team Manager Nick Clement, who pulled away from the field early to take first place.

Round three of the series takes place on Friday, February 7 with the season culminating in the ‘Grand Day’ on March 22.
