A 17-strong squad of Kendal swimmers made the trip to Blackpool to compete in an Open Graded Gala organised by Garstang Swimming Club.

A host of awards and personal best times were achieved with Hannah Edwards, Alex Agliolo, Amy Reay and Ollie Sargeant winning a medal in each event entered.

Edwards in particular was in sparkling form, picking up three gold and two silver medals, while Agliolo won two silver medals and three bronze.

Reay – back in top form after injury – returned with a silver and four bronze medals as Sargeant took two gold and two silvers.

His younger sister Lucy almost matched her brother’s haul as she claimed two gold medals as well as a silver.

With Edwards and Agliolo competing in the same age group, their events often came down to the duo sharing honours.

Edwards snatched victory in the 50m freestyle with a storming finish, before going on to claim a hat-trick of wins with success in the butterfly and backstroke.

However, she had to be content with the runners-up spots in 50m breaststroke and 100m individual medley, losing out to Garstang’s Karin Busby and Barrow’s Leah Green.

Both Agliolo and Reay, despite missing a winner's spot, never stopped battling to drive their way into the top medal positions.

Place medals also went to Scott Womack (Silver), Taylor Jane Chapple (Bronze), Jake Edwards (Bronze), Carly Johnson (Bronze), Molly Womack (Bronze) and Gregor Fletcher (Bronze).

Other supporting awards went to Jake Bryant, Rebecca Rimmer-Evans, Ella Bond and Eloise Doherty.

In the same Gala, Troutbeck Bridge swimmers Todd Lindsay took three gold and two silver medals as Ellie Robertson claimed three support awards.
