WINNING tomorrow's home game with Stockport is crucial after last week's disappointment of being turned over by Westoe, says Kendal director of rugby Chris Hayton, writes Dennis Aris.
"We had a good training session on Tuesday night and I have no doubt that at home tomorrow with the crowd behind us we will put things right," he said.
He added that it would also be a good time to start puitting a run together as elsewhere Caldy and Beverley, the top two sides in North Division One, meet while third-placed Altricham Kersal face a tough trip to in-form Huddersfield, who caused an upset by beating Caldy in December.
"The league is compressing and there are four of us on 16 points, so things could easily turns round again this week," said Hayton.
"We have to get our heads down and work hard. At some time in the season you have to have a run of victories and it has now got to be our time if we are to get to where we want to be.
"Away from home we still have to do better. It is something which keeps coming back to haunt us. Last week's defeat at Westoe was disappointing. It was three driven mauls that that did the damage.
"We were hoisted by our own petard as it is an area in which have dominated other teams. We felt the midfield defence tackling was good, but against a big and dynamic pack we were again naive.
"We have to grow up away from home and play a simpler game, but it is not the end of the road.
"We have to adopt a postage-stamp mentality and stick to it until we get where we want to be."
