SKIPPER Stu Parkin ripped through the Barrow top-order to lay the foundations for Kendal’s eight-wicket success and return to form following a series of indifferent results.

The 33-year-old claimed a season’s best 6-53, including the wickets of Barrow top scorer Sam Dutton for 60 and Indian professional Kaustubh Pawar for 44 as Barrow posted 153.

Jamie How, who took three wickets with the ball, then starred with the bat to post an unbeaten 75, while Ryan Shepherd continued his good form with 45.

Prior to Parkin’s heroics, Adam Cowperthwaite struck first to dismiss Dean Williams for a duck, caught by Nick Lewthwaite, with Barrow 15-1.

Opener Pawar and Dutton then looked to repair the early damage and added 60 for the second wicket, as Barrow reached 85-1 at the halfway stage of their innings.

Shortly after the resumption, Pawar departed for 44 after edging Parkin behind to wicketkeeper Richard Herron, a scalp which prompted a flurry of regular wickets.

Michael Wellings fell the same way before Parkin disturbed the stumps of Dutton, who returned to the pavilion for 60 after an innings containing nine boundaries.

Christopher D’Leny was the next to fall under Parkin’s spell, caught by Chris Miller for 13 – one of only three Barrow batsmen to reach double figures – with the hosts 144-5 off 40 overs.

How then came to the party and bowled Greg Reynolds for four as Parkin completed his five-wicket haul by bowling Graham Dawson for eight as Barrow continued to collapse.

Former New Zealand international How then snared Rhys Studt, caught and bowled for one, before Barrow captain Daryl Wearing holed out to Darren Braithwaite for a duck in the same over.

Parkin, who bowled unchanged throughout, mopped up the Barrow tail by dismissing Gary Collins – his sixth victim – as Barrow slipped from 85-1 to 153 all out, with How finishing with 3-1 from five overs.

Kendal’s reply started in disappointing fashion with Ben Harrison lasting just four balls before falling for one, bowled by Dawson, with the Shap Road club 5-1.

This brought How to the crease and together with Shepherd – opening for the first time this summer in place of Darren Moore – batted the visitors to victory.

The duo took the Kendal score to 60-1 off ten overs and continued in a similar vein until Shepherd fell for 45, a solid 69-ball knock which built on his performance against Netherfield the week before.

After striking five fours, Collins claimed the former Burneside batsman’s wicket, with the away side 103-2 in the 22nd over and odds on to claim victory.

How cleared the boundary ropes to bring up his half century in the 25th over, with the 33-year-old finishing 75 not out with nine fours and three sixes to his name.

Hunte was left undefeated on 20 at the other end as victory was claimed in the 30th over, with How top of the Northern League Division One batting averages with 83.25.
