ONE of Windermere Golf Club’s most talented junior members has won the Cumbria Junior 36-holes strokeplay championship for the second year running.

Competing in the ‘under-16s’ category, Alex Rose battled against 27 other players to win the trophy.

Held at Seascale Golf Club in increasingly difficult conditions, Archie Davies led following the morning round, but Rose took the top spot by one stroke, finishing on rounds of 77 and 78.

A member of Windermere golf club since the age of seven, the Crosthwaite resident was delighted to be crowned winner.

“I was hoping to do well in this championship, but the competition was extremely tough, together with conditions,” he said.

“It was particularly windy in the afternoon. Despite both of these factors, however, I managed to take the title and am delighted to have won two years in a row. I only hope I can do as well in the under-18’s category next year.”

Windermere’s head PGA professional Simon Edwards added: “We are all very proud of Alex on retaining his title and have high hopes for his future.

“Alex is a complete all-rounder, doing well at school and also very talented at football. It has been a pleasure to watch him develop from a very young novice to the super player he has become today.”
