KENDAL Town boss Dave Foster insists his team have the quality and determination to reach the play-offs as another gruelling Evo Stik Premier Division North seasons starts this weekend.

A disappointing 3-2 defeat at home to Skelmersdale on Saturday brought the curtain down on a varied pre-season with three defeats, three draws and two wins.

But Foster, about to embark on his first full season in charge of the Mintcakes, believes his team can push for play-off glory and hopes for a perfect start when his side travel down the M6 to Northwich Victoria this weekend.

"We've got all the games out the way now," he said. "I'm confident we will get the win if we play like we did against Skelmersdale.

"We want to be in the play-offs. We've assembled a squad that we think is capable of that. I think that needs to be our aim, we've got lads in our team who have come here to go up so that's what we will be aiming for.

"We've got players who have high standards and who don't like to lose which is incredibly important."

Three mistakes cost Kendal dearly against Skelmersdale but Foster insists there were many positives to take from the workout against the Evo Stik Premier Division outfit.

"It was a very good performance, certainly for 70/75 minutes they struggled to deal with us," he said.

"We played really good football, moved the ball well and I thought we had large spells of the game where we dominated and I don't think they had a clue how to deal with us.

"We could have been three up at half time. There was a couple of chances we should have put away so I'm not too disheartened really."

He added: "All three goals were mistakes and you just can't account for those. I put a lot of subs on in the last ten minutes and that does change the game so you've got to take it with a pinch of salt.

"There's good morale in the dressing room at the moment. Of course we are disappointed we didn't get the result but we had a conversation about the performance and it's important we don't feel too disheartened by that.

"We've come up against a very good team and had we not made those mistake and those subs, which is unrealistic on a match day, we would have come out with a win."
